Hard Life Music Video
Last January I got to help out in the making of a music video for a friend of mine. This was also the first "full project" test for the Red Camera for Labyrinth films. Check out Fat Cat's Livin' a Hard LifeShooting locations were A motel, a downtown alley and another location in Aberdeen, SD. The shop and office scenes were in an old body shop in Gackle, North Dakota. | | Wednesday, March 26th, 2008 | | 10:36 pm |
Goin' to Iowa and Sketchin' away
Our film, Aurora, is an official selection at the Siouxland Film Festival at the Orpheum Theater in Sioux City, Iowa. It should be pretty neat to see it premiere in its more completed form at a Festival alongside other movies. I'll be heading down with Shaun, Matt and Katy on Saturday and we'll be spending the night. Its something like a 5-6 hour drive to get there. In other news over on my Fur Affinity Page I did a bunch of Free sketches for folks last weekend. I got in six requests in which I asked for a reference and a favorite quote. For my part I had to do them quickly and not overthink them. It was an exercise to get me to draw. They came out all right I think: Bucky had the cutest sketch. Jaws For LikeItIs Gorath A rather crude character for Slipstreme. Jeremy White is Lost in Space. Toon King Who's quote I had a devil of a time coming up with context for. and Nelwin for Charrio, who came up with the grossest quote. I'm definitely doing something like this again. It was fun, and it keeps me drawing. | | Friday, February 22nd, 2008 | | 12:35 pm |
Aurora (Our Fischgaard Film)
The movies are now up on the homepage of our local newspaper. http://www.aberdeennews.com/apps/pbcs.dll/section?category=special23Our team (49 Hour Films) produced the film Aurora. If you watch it be sure to let it load first, the site is a tad clunky. Like I said before, this film is one of the best we've done to date. In fact we are shooting some additional scenes and plan to send it to a few other film festivals. That version will look different from this one. On this one we just made the deadline for late entries. We didn't get judged in the adjudicated awards, though we were eligible for peoples choice awards. You might also note that we didn't have enough time to put the ending credits on this version. Elements required for our film: Genre: Drama Character: Terry/Terri Schumacher an Educator Line of Dialog: "Get the cotton out of your ears." Prop: A for Sale Sign. | | Monday, February 18th, 2008 | | 7:02 pm |
Downs and Ups
Well we didn't make out deadline for the primary awards. We were eligible for audience choice awards but failed to register with the audience enough to garner many favorites. However. The film we created is one of the best we've done to date. Those that weren't put off by its eccentricity had glowing compliments. I'll talk more about it after its been put online. | | Sunday, February 17th, 2008 | | 3:31 am |
I am Beat
The Fourth Annual Fischgaard Short Film Project is now well underway. I woke up at 5 AM and went to Labyrinth Studios to gather up the gear and my co-conspiritors in this enterprise. We headed out to a remote farm house to do a sunrise scene. Filming went great. Came back to town and waited on actors and other locations. We Revisited the Farm House for more scenes some inside and some sunset scenes where we faked the light to look like morning. Then its back to town so some editing work could be done. All this while our musicians stayed in the studio to compose original music. The snippets I heard were awesome. We finally scored another location at ended up shooting until 1 am. The cast and crew dispersed for the night. Shaun and Matt are editing right now even. I stopped off at work to upload photos from the site to the net. Then I gassed up the van we were using and took water back to the studio so Shaun and Matt wouldn't die. The bars had let out at this time and a group of folks were waiting around for a shuttle outside a bar across the street from the studio. They saw me and asked for a lift. They offered twenty bucks. I figured why not. Well I got them home safely and actually told them not to worry about the money. It just made me feel good knowing that they got home safe. Even if I have no idea who the heck they are. They started shoving money at me anyway to the point where it would have been very rude to turn it down. So in the end of the night I ended up making $30. I wish I could go to sleep, but I have to head back to the Studio in a couple of hours so we can go back to the Farm location for another couple of pick up shots. And that is my mid competition update. I'll give you more info tomorrow maybe after the films are aired. Cheers all. *Falls over from exhaustion.* ****** Edit If you want to see some photos of our shoot go to http://www.fischgaard.org/ check the "For Filmmakers" Pull down option and select Photos. The ones submitted by "49 Hour Films" is my team. | | Saturday, February 9th, 2008 | | 11:05 am |
Long time no see.
Soooo, if you're reading this then you probably wonder what I've been up to. Well initial meetings for the Second South Dakota Film Festival have begun. Yup! Our crazy group is riding high off the success of last year's festival and are ready to get into the next one. Film submissions should open pretty soon. The Fischgaard Short Film project is kicking off next weekend. I'm on Shaun and Matt's team this year again and we are looking to have some fun while shooting some mean film. We have Julia and Elizabeth who acted and worked on our film last year and we also have a couple of actors that we met at the South Dakota Film Festival. I've also been doing a slight bit of brainstorming with Bill, a fellow I work with. He and someone else are going to be on another team, but since Shaun asked me to be on his team first. That's where I'll be. I am working on new Ratsmith Comics. HOOT! I've managed to write quite an extensive history between Rat and Smith and why they are together and where they come from. Unfortunately your chances of seeing that history is pretty low since Ratsmith Comics are typically single gag ordeals. Curse my slow drawing speed. I wanna tell longer tales damnit! Oh well, at least I have semi solid backgrounds for them. I've done quite a bit of writing besides comics as well, specifically Cough!eroticstoriesCOUGH COUGH! But since those are very terribly written they probably won't see the light of day. I'm mostly using them to exorcise my inner lust demons so I can later concentrate on writing real stories. I even have a few furry themed stories in mind that I'd like to tackle. | | Monday, November 26th, 2007 | | 8:24 am |
Car Crashes Really Really Suck
Saturday night was quite an adventure. I was at a railroad crossing and first in line to get past. The train had backed up traffic going north and south so when I was able to drive again I faced a back up of cars four blocks long. I drove north about one block when an SUV darted out from a side street between two of those cars in that long line. I slammed on my breaks and hoped he was going fast enough to get out of the way but alas... Our cars intertwined and landed on the corner of the intersection, the SUV had been turned almost all the way around. I switched off my engine and got out. After asking each other if we were ok he instantly said, "Oh, I'm sorry man, that was totally my fault...ahh, crap and I don't have a license either." So to wrap things up. My car was towed away, looked too bad to be road worthy, the guy (he was nice, I kind of felt sorry for him) left with the police officer who arrived on the scene, and I collected a few things from my car and got a ride home with my sister who came out to pick me up. Both of the other driver and I got banged up a little but nothing that warranted an ambulance ride so we at least had that going for us. I'm shook up a little from the experience, but I know for an absolute FACT that I did nothing wrong...these things just happen sometimes. I am a little disappointed that my airbag did not deploy...I hit him going 25 miles per hour, how fast do you have to hit someone to get one of these safety devices to work? And here I thought I'd had my traffic close call for the month when I almost hit a deer after dropping off Tensik coming home from MFF. Of course now my big fear is coming...I still owe around $10,000 on my car. Will the insurance want to pay off the car and force me to start from square one in buying a car, or will they spring for a fix job leaving me paying my debt to a car that...won't really be worth it anymore. Guess I'll find out in due time...meanwhile, I'll be bumming rides off of friends and family or walking wherever I need to go. Sorry about the whining rant folks. I just needed to blow off a little frustration. Current Mood: annoyed | | Friday, November 23rd, 2007 | | 9:30 pm |

SDFF
I just got back from a session of previewing screeners for the South Dakota Film Festival. The films are hit and miss with their quality but we have some pretty good gems that I can't wait to see on the big screen. Still, we would like to see more shorts entered. So I've been given permission to waive the entry fee folks with a short they want to show. So if anyone reading this has a short film they want to get into an official film festival get in touch with me and I can get you a screening. | | Tuesday, July 3rd, 2007 | | 4:45 pm |
South Dakota Film Festival
A unique statewide event for filmmakers and film lovers to gather, mingle and watch pretty cool movies. The “South Dakota Film Festival” will begin taking submissions beginning June 15, 2007 on a regional, national and international level, with an emphasis on films made by filmmakers from the Great Plains region (SD, MN, ND, IA, WY, and NE) or films shot in the Great Plains region. However, regional considerations are only one of many factors that will be accounted for in the final draw of films chosen for the “South Dakota Film Festival”. While we are trying to emphasize films from the Great Plains, that is not the primary focus. The goal of the “South Dakota Film Festival” is to screen the “best” films submitted regardless of their geographic origin. The screening weekend of the South Dakota Film Festival runs September 21st-23rd, 2007. All films will be shown in the Historic Capitol Theater in downtown Aberdeen, SD. Accepting film submissions beginning June 15th. For more information check out http://www.southdakotafilmfest.org/>www.southdakotafilmfest.org | | Monday, June 11th, 2007 | | 12:09 am |

One Rat Short
Thank you for pointing this out to me peromyscusI remember reading about this film several months ago in some of the trade magazines, I'm glad I can finally see it. I'll have to see if Amazon is carrying it too. One Rat Short | | 12:00 pm |
Spring Break
Here is the film our team entered to the Fargo 48 Hour Film Project this year. We were incredibly late with it so were voided from the majority of awards. We did get runner up for audience choice though. Our proudest achievement is the original music by Bill and Julia which they composed and recorded on Saturday. Genre: Holiday Film. Prop: Water Bottle Character: Tony West, a security guard. Line of dialogue: I can't believe you just said that. | | Thursday, May 24th, 2007 | | 12:17 pm |
Robin Hoodlum
Found this over on Cartoon Brew. Robin's tail seems to go missing every now and then but this is a highly amusing show anyway. | | Thursday, April 26th, 2007 | | 7:45 pm |

A night at the Movies Today all the films for the Aberdeen Icon Film Project were displayed for the different teams that entered. Overall it wasn't bad for a first go at this kind of contest. Two of the films were documentaries in style and one was a narrative piece that highlighted local buildings and places that help make Aberdeen...well Aberdeen.
My favorite had to be Dan Cleberg's. He did a documentary featuring two of his favorite things. Hot sauces and the local music scene. A group of friends would down hotter and hotter sauces as documentary footage highlighted folksy music and worked its way up to metal. Later in the evening I went to the Red Rooster Coffee House to check out the DVD release party for the 2007 Fischgaard Short Film Project. I got to see the films projected again amongst a crowd of movie fans, including The Split.
I picked up a my own DVD for ten bucks. Not a bad price, and the money goes back into the Aberdeen Film Society. A project which strives to promote local filmmakers and get movies played in the Capital Theatre. | | Thursday, April 12th, 2007 | | 12:07 am |

Hmmm
Maybe I should update this more. Recently we just lost and gained an employee. The new person is Nicole and comes from the newspaper. Its intersting, now we can hear exactly what's been said about our company and our magazine over there... EEP! Such language. I'm finally uploading my Tales From YLG comics. You can read them here. http://www.furaffinity.net/view/464250/ | | Saturday, March 3rd, 2007 | | 5:32 pm |
